Pregnancy Update: 27 Weeks + 6 Days (Almost 28!)
I am currently 27 weeks and 6 days pregnant, and I will officially be 28 weeks tomorrow. Yay—another huge milestone! Time actually feels like it’s moving a little faster now.
Also, sorry for the late post this week. I’ve been dealing with a lot, so let me catch you up.
Issues With My Medication
As I mentioned in a previous YouTube video, I have to take weekly injections called Makena. The Makena shot is used to help prevent preterm labor, and it’s supposed to be injected once a week starting at 16 weeks.
I haven’t had any issues with my medication this entire time—until now.
The problem is with Accredo Pharmacy. They are currently holding my medication, saying that I need prior authorization. Mind you, I already received prior authorization when I first started my shots at 16 weeks. So why would I suddenly need another one?
I spoke with both my insurance company and my MFM (high-risk doctor) who prescribed the medication, and they both confirmed that everything has been done correctly on their end.
At this point, I’m honestly wondering if I could sue this pharmacy for holding my medication—especially if a missed dose were to cause me to go into preterm labor. That’s how serious this is.
Because of the delay, I contacted my new OB and MFM here in Atlanta, and they arranged for me to get a compounded version of my medication from a local pharmacy that’s 1 hour and 30 minutes away. I’ll be able to take my shot on time, but I’ll have to pay out of pocket, even though my insurance already covers the original medication.
It’s honestly just a big mess.
New Pregnancy Symptoms
Aside from the stress with my medication, I haven’t had any major new symptoms. My lower back and right hip pain is still there, but it’s very dull. It mostly shows up when I lay flat on my back on hard surfaces.
This Thursday, I plan to see my local sports chiropractor—the same one I used during track season. Even though my pain isn’t severe right now, I want to make sure it doesn’t get worse again. I’ll probably go back to my routine of visiting every 2–3 weeks.
Body maintenance during pregnancy is really important to me. I also found a place here in Atlanta called Pregnancy Massage Center, and I had the best massage ever. I went ahead and scheduled weekly massages through the month of January. Your girl is not playing any games—LOL.
As far as stretch marks, I still don’t have any on my belly. I love being pregnant, and I absolutely love feeling my baby move around. It’s such an amazing feeling. Maybe I’ll hit another big growth spurt around 30 weeks, but for now I’m still pretty comfortable—especially compared to other women in my pregnancy Facebook groups who are already complaining.
Hubby’s Surgery
Marquise had surgery earlier last week and is still recovering. He had a bone marrow transplant from his hip into his knee, along with a PRP shot in his big toe. Although the procedures only took about 30 minutes, he was put to sleep.
Both procedures were done to help promote healing in his injured joints, ligaments, and tissues. His recovery is going well, but he’ll be out for about two weeks. After that, he’ll slowly ease back into pool training and elliptical workbefore returning to running on hard surfaces.
I Need Some Zen
Please pray for me. I was honestly on the verge of tears on the phone with the pharmacy because they were stressing me out so badly. I’m usually pretty good at staying calm, but this morning I almost broke down and had to hang up because I just couldn’t take it anymore.
Thank God my OB and MFM here in Atlanta were able to find me an alternative option.
