MORGAN GOODWIN

Meet the Heart Behind Incompetent But Hopeful

My name is Morgan Goodwin, and I’m so glad you’re here.

I was born and raised in Atlanta and now call Austin, Texas home, where I live with my husband, Marquise Goodwin, and our three children—Marae, Marquise Jr., and Million. My husband recently retired from the NFL, and together we are navigating this beautiful, stretching season of family, faith, and purpose.

Both my husband and I attended The University of Texas at Austin—Go Longhorns! I earned my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from UT Austin and later completed my Master of Arts in Strategic Communications from Liberty University. Communication, storytelling, and advocacy have always been at the heart of who I am—and they deeply shape how and why I show up in this space.

This space exists because of a deeply personal journey.

Why This Space Exists

I live with a condition called incompetent cervix, a diagnosis that places me at high risk for preterm labor and has led to the unimaginable pain of second-trimester pregnancy loss. It is often silent, often misunderstood, and devastatingly real. Losing a child changes you—it reshapes your faith, your body, your identity, and the way you see the world.

Incompetent But Hopeful was born out of those broken places.

This blog is part testimony, part healing space, and part journal—where I share my lived experiences, the ways I am learning to cope, and the hope I continue to hold onto, even on the hardest days. My prayer is that this space feels honest, gentle, and encouraging for women who have walked similar roads or are learning how to take the next breath after loss.

I don’t write as an expert.
I write as a woman who has survived, grieved, prayed, questioned, and kept believing—one day at a time.

Thank you for being here. I hope something you read reminds you that you are not alone, your story still matters, and hope is still possible.

This book was written for the woman who never imagined her story would include loss.

Incompetent But Hopeful is a deeply personal testimony of grief, faith, and resilience—born from second-trimester pregnancy loss and the quiet strength it takes to keep believing when life doesn’t make sense. Through honest storytelling and gentle hope, this book reminds grieving women that loss does not cancel purpose.
