4th Trimester Update: Baby Marae Is 2 Weeks Old
I cannot believe Baby Marae is already two weeks old. But honestly, what I can’t believe even more is that my husband and I are finally parents. What a long, emotional journey it’s been for us.
I am officially in the 4th trimester, which is the 12-week period after giving birth where your body heals, hormones shift, and you adjust to life as a new mom. I planned to write this post during my first week postpartum, but you already know how that goes. I was completely soaking up the love and enjoying every moment with my sweet Baby Marae.
C-Section Recovery
Let me just say this—a C-section is nothing to be afraid of. It didn’t hurt at all, and my experience was honestly great. My recovery has been going really well too.
The only thing I struggled with in the hospital was gas pain, and whew… it was bad. The gas just would not come out, and I was literally in tears from the pain. I ended up taking a suppository, and that finally helped.
I was walking really well shortly after my C-section. I just had to stay on top of my pain medication—when I skipped a dose, I’d get really stiff. My incision itself doesn’t hurt much; it’s mostly numb. I don’t have a lot of sensation there yet, which is normal. It’ll take time for the nerves to reconnect. I experienced the same thing after my TAC surgery.
My uterus is shrinking back down each day, and it’s honestly amazing to watch my stomach change. I still look about three months pregnant, but that’s expected. I’ve been wearing my Bellefit postpartum corset and alternating with my Baobei Maternity postpartum bloomers. So far, my 4th trimester has been treating me well.
First Week Home
Hubby has been amazing. He’s been sleeping near the bassinet to help with Baby Marae. When she gets hungry or needs a diaper change, he brings her to me. Before my milk came in, he handled most of the nighttime feedings and diaper changes so I wouldn’t have to struggle getting up while healing from surgery.
I truly couldn’t ask for a better partner.
I actually found myself happy during my first sleepless night—not fully sleepless, but you know what I mean. Marae decided she was not a fan of her Halo bassinet and prefers sleeping right next to mommy or daddy. She’s already spoiled. But honestly, if being close to us helps her sleep peacefully, that’s where she’ll be. She’s definitely a feisty little thing.
Breastfeeding
My milk took a few days to come in, so we fed Marae sterile formula from the hospital until it arrived. My milk came in four days postpartum, and let me tell you—Marae was thrilled.
We latched her immediately after birth, and she had no issues at all. The lactation nurses were shocked at how well everything was going and how knowledgeable I already was about positioning and breastfeeding.
What they didn’t know is that breastfeeding was something I had always dreamed of. It was the one thing I looked forward to the most after giving birth—and I’m so grateful that it’s been a positive experience.
Team Green 💚
We were Team Green my entire pregnancy, meaning we chose not to find out the sex of our baby until birth. It’s definitely an old-school approach, especially now that you can find out as early as 10 weeks with blood tests.
But let me tell you—the surprise was so worth it. It was hands down the best surprise ever.
When we have more children, we’ll absolutely do Team Green again. My pregnancy and birth experience were so beautiful that I honestly can’t wait to do it all over again.
