Bedrest Update: I’m Finally Off!
I am super excited to announce that I am no longer on bedrest. Bedrest was so tough for me. I’m usually a busybody—I love getting things done around the house and outside of the house—so being forced to slow down was definitely a challenge.
Even though I’m officially off bedrest, I’m still keeping my activity very light.
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have noticed that I’ve picked back up an old hobby—crocheting. My Nana taught my sisters and me how to crochet when we were younger. Now that I’m settling into this pregnancy and resting more, I decided to start crocheting again. I recently finished a super soft baby blanket and have already started on another one.
I don’t ever want to be on bedrest again, so I’m doing my absolute best to stay homebound. No more grocery shopping, no more cooking, and no more deep cleaning. I order groceries, hired someone to help with deep cleaning, and we use meal prep services for the week. I also will not be going back and forth to the airport to pick up family or guests—Uber and Lyft can handle that. Thank God for technology and modern-day conveniences.
Braxton Hicks & Constipation
I’ve realized that my Braxton Hicks contractions are closely connected to constipation. At night, when I experience multiple Braxton Hicks, it’s usually followed by an upset stomach. That upset stomach sends me straight to the bathroom for a bowel movement—and once I go, the Braxton Hicks stop.
Now that I’ve figured this out, I keep prune juice and cranberry juice stocked in the fridge. If I haven’t had a bowel movement in two days, I start my natural home remedy. This might be a little TMI, but this is a real update—and if it helps someone else dealing with the same thing, it’s worth sharing.
Since being off bedrest, my body has mostly returned to its normal rhythm. I still feel like I’m measuring small, but then I remind myself that I’m carrying a singleton, not twins, this time around.
Overall, I’m feeling much better about this pregnancy now that I’ve officially reached my halfway point. I’ll be 21 weeks on Tuesday. I’m also feeling our baby more and more each day as he or she grows—and hubby has finally been able to feel the baby kick from the outside.
PRAISE BE!
P.S. I’ve started watching a new show on Hulu called The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s so good. If you’re on bedrest or just bored at home, I highly recommend it.
With love,
Mrs. Goodwin
