Full Circle: From U20 Athlete to Team USA Team Manager

What an unforgettable experience.

As I wrap up my time serving as a Team Manager for Team USA at the World Athletics U20 Championships, my heart is full of gratitude. This week was about so much more than organizing schedules, helping athletes, and making sure everything ran smoothly. It was about witnessing dreams in the making and remembering exactly where my own journey began.

Fourteen years ago, I was one of these athletes.

In 2012, I boarded a plane to Barcelona, Spain, to represent Team USA at the U20 World Championships. I was young, excited, and a little nervous. I was traveling internationally without my family, surrounded by teammates I had never met before. Little did I know that trip would change my life.

Along the way, I found lifelong friendships and teammates who have become some of the greatest athletes in the world. Today, many of those same friends are Olympians, World Champions, American record holders, and international medalists. Watching their careers unfold has been incredible, and it all started with an opportunity just like this one.

Returning to the U20 Championships as a Team Manager felt like everything had come full circle.

This time, I wasn't stepping onto the track to compete. Instead, I had the privilege of supporting the next generation of Team USA athletes. Whether it was answering questions, helping with logistics, offering encouragement, or simply being someone they could count on, I wanted each athlete to know they were supported.

I hope they realize that this championship is only the beginning.

The friendships they made this week could last a lifetime. The memories they created will stay with them forever. And for many of them, this is the first step toward becoming future Olympians, World Champions, and record holders.

One of my favorite moments from the championships was creating a video where I met athletes, coaches, and fans from countries all around the world. We may have spoken different languages and represented different nations, but smiles, hugs, and kindness need no translation. It reminded me why I fell in love with track and field in the first place. The sport has an incredible way of bringing people together, creating friendships that cross borders and cultures.

To every athlete who wore the red, white, and blue, thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your journey. Watching your determination, resilience, and passion was inspiring.

Thank you to Team USA and USATF for trusting me with this opportunity. It was truly an honor to give back to a program that gave so much to me years ago.

As one chapter comes to a close, I'm excited to see where God leads next. If this experience reminded me of anything, it's that our purpose often comes full circle. Sometimes we begin as the ones being supported, and one day we become the ones lifting others up.

Until next time,

Morgan Goodwin
