Pregnancy Update: 26 Weeks & My Move To Atlanta

Experiencing Loss / Sunday, December 8th, 2019

I am 26 weeks today as I write this blog post. Yay, I hit another one of my major milestones. My next milestone will be at 28 weeks. A baby born at 26 weeks has a higher chance of survival. If premature rupture of the membranes occur while in your 26th week of pregnancy, the baby has a better chance of survival because the lungs have been developed. Some doctors will prescribe hospital bedrest if this happens because they would watch for infections but you wouldn’t be forced to have labor.

Keeping your baby nestled, safe inside your womb is the goal. Each day a baby is in the womb, you knock off 3 days in the NICU. My pregnancy is going smoothly. I don’t foresee any issues later on besides the normal increase of Braxton hicks and occasional contractions towards the end of my pregnancy.

I’m In Atlanta Now

I recently travel to Atlanta on November 30th. My flight was super early and I had no issues or delays. I had to hire a driver in the morning because I needed to leave my house by 5am. Plus I was traveling with 2 large suitcases, one small roller suitcase, my purse, and my dog. I had my hands full so I knew I would need some help.

Although I miss my hubby so much, it feels great to be back home. My hubby and I aren’t able to be around family during the holidays much because we’re always in football season. The players may get off for a day but they still have to work on the holidays and they even have games on Christmas and thanksgiving.

New Atlanta OB

I had my first official appointment with my new OB, Dr. Jose Garcia, and it went great. We discussed my history, current pregnancy, and my future plans with their practice. I feel very comfortable with Dr. Garcia because he is tentative to my care and concerns giving my prior history. I hate when OB’s think they know it all and too stubborn to tailor their standard care to someone who needs extra attention/care.

I was given my TDAP shot at my appointment. Dr. Garcia explained to me that its best to do the shot now verses at 28 weeks since I won’t be delivering at 40 weeks. It takes about 11-12 weeks to fully transfer immunity to the baby. So since I will be delivering between 36 and 37 weeks, 25/26 weeks is a good time to get my shot. I go back to see my OB in two weeks. My fundal height was measuring 29 weeks, Yikes! My tummy grew some more since my latest OB appointment. At my 25 week appointment, my fundal height was measuring at 28 weeks.

In addition, I have an appointment with my new high risk doctor on Monday. They will be checking my cervix at that appointment and possibly measuring the baby again. After my cervical check appointment, I will find out if I need anymore cervical checks in the future after this appointment. I shouldn’t but my new OB likes to be precautious in order to foresee any issues later on in my pregnancy that may alter my care.

I can’t wait to see our baby again next week, I always look forward to ultrasounds. They’re so much better than using the doppler to just hear the heartbeat. I have 98 days to go until we meet our baby!!! Well technically only around 77 days, which is even better.
