NFL Honors…The Best Experience Ever!
Growing up, I never imagined that my life would be like it is now. I didn’t know I would be married by the age of 22. I never saw myself owning a home at the age of 22. And I never imagined myself marrying a NFL football player. This is my life though. I mean, this is crazy! I was just at the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony!
The craziest thing happened to us on the way to Minneapolis. It all started with my dress. I ordered a dress for the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony and guess what happened. You guessed it, my dress didn’t come in on time; such an inconvenience. So I had to go shopping for a new dress the day before our flight.
I did end up finding a formal gown from Neiman Marcus. And our neighbors do alterations. Lucky for us, they were able to make some last minute adjustments to my dress. The next day came around, we were on our way and then this happened!
We arrived at the airport, parked, checked in, and boarded our flight. We got to the front of the plane and realized our suit/dress was still in the back seat of the car. What the hell! Our hearts stopped and we both started running off of the plane. I stopped my husband in his tracks and said, “baby catch this flight, i’ll get on the next one.” He didn’t want to leave me, but he knew he had to take care of business.
My husband had appearances and signings that he couldn’t miss. I took the “L” and chose to fly standby. I’m a big girl; I’m used to flying alone. So I went to the car, grabbed our outfits and waited for the next flight. I waited a total of six hours before getting on the next available flight. Flying standby is a hit or miss. Sometimes you get a seat and sometimes you don’t. I was just praying that someone didn’t show up. Thankfully, I was blessed enough to end up getting a seat.
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12).
I went from first class to a middle seat in coach. I didn’t even care, I just needed to get to Minneapolis. After landing, I grabbed our outfits and made my way to the hotel. That night, we went out with a couple of my husband’s NFL friends including Robert Woods, Odell Beckham Jr., Tyrod Taylor, and Von Miller.
At the club, we were able to watch Cardie B and Future perform. I’ve always wanted to see Future perform. I love his music. Cardie B has some good tracks out right now too. It was fun watching her perform as well.
The NFL Honors is a red carpet event. We were able to see so many celebrities. We ran into Russel Willson and his wife Ciara, Kevin Hart, Keegan Michael-Key, and Snoop Dog. Plus there were NFL team owners, coaches, general managers and an enormous amount of talented athletes.
My husband was nominated for “Best Play of The Year” for his 83 yard touchdown after the passing of our baby boy. Unfortunately, he didn’t win. There’s always next time though. We we’re just blessed to enjoy this wonderful experience. Being around all these talented individuals gave me an adrenaline rush.
“Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.” –Robert Breault
The NFL Honors was a great experience. We were able to meet some of the greatest NFL football players in history. I’m talking, Hall of Famers. We had a wonderful encounter with one “Hall of Famers” in particular. His name was Darrell Green.
Green is a former cornerback who played for the Washington Redskins. He is one of the fastest, greatest cornerbacks to ever play in the NFL. It was a pleasure meeting him and his wife of 50 plus years. He spoke highly about his life, his wife, and his kids. He even gave my husband some advice on how to live the “best life” as a football player. We spoke for hours.
In all, we would love to be invited to this event again. I know my husband is going to do everything in his power to be the best athlete he can be. A lot of people doubted him, but I’m pretty sure they’re getting the picture. My husband is a BEAST! He won’t stop until he gets what he wants. You’ll see. He’s dedicated, hard-working, persistent. Baby if you’re reading this, I love you. You’re the best! Keep up the good work!
